FAQs
1. Who are we?

Jesus Christ calls Grandview Church to be a fully inclusive church, recognizing the sacred worth of all people, including those of every race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, and gender identity. We embrace those who are marginalized for any reason. Grandview cultivates respectful discussion of differences among all who seek to love their neighbors.
We believe God is love. Beyond that, we are a community of all sorts of people and a wide variety of ideas. We practice a thinking faith that likes questions. We don’t take the Bible literally; we do take it very seriously. We make our spirituality active through acts of justice locally and globally.

27 S. Belmont St, York, PA 17403
Our offices are at our Lancaster location:
Grandview Church
888 Pleasure Road
Lancaster, PA 17601

3. What time are your Sunday services?
We are following this schedule:
9 am – Sunday Service
10 am – Formation Hour
4. Do you have Sunday School?
Yes! But we call it Formation Hour.
Opportunities for children to grow in faith and love are available every Sunday morning at the 9am worship hour and afterward. Kids grow in faith by creating art, singing, acting out Bible stories, and gaining other information-to-grow in ways that last…and that help them to think for themselves. And they have a great time doing it.
Learning opportunities for adults include “Coffee & Theology,” a discussion-based group reflection on current events from the lens of our faith. And yes – there is coffee (fair-trade, masterfully brewed on site by a volunteer).
5. Do you have a program for teens?
Yes! Our youth have their own class during Formation Hour, and they meet monthly to grow in relationship with Christ and one another, serve our community, and have lots of fun!
6. Church in a working theatre? Tell me more!
Grandview is grateful to have found a home at the Belmont Theatre, located at 27 S. Belmont St., York. The theater aligns with Grandview in values and—as Adam, a York resident who grew up attending Grandview Lancaster described— “just feels like a Grandview space”. Services will be held every Sunday at 9am in either the Mainstage or Blackbox theatre, depending on which theatre is not currently being used for a show. If you have ever seen or attended a Grandview Lancaster service at 9am, you can expect a similar feel in terms of music and liturgy. Grandview York is grateful for the hospitality of the theatre’s staff including Executive Director Shane Rohrbaugh.
7. Who is Grandview Church?
Grandview York is a new church planted by our rapidly growing sibling – Grandview Church Lancaster (hyperlink to their website). For some time, Grandview has sensed the need for more like-hearted churches in the area. When 43 United Methodists churches in York County left the denomination, seeking even more traditionalist and less LGBTQ-affirming expressions of Christianity, a number of those folks came to Grandview Lancaster. Together, they discerned that Grandview has something unique to offer – and launched a new congregation at the Belmont on Pentecost Sunday in 2024.
8. Why York County?
Since at least 2021, when it left the UMC and its discriminatory policies and became a free-standing congregation, Grandview Church has been sensing the need for more churches akin to it, as the church has seen people traveling from farther and farther to attend. In 2022 and 2023, that conversation began to get more serious. Then, on Palm Sunday 2023, about a dozen people from York County came to worship at Grandview and were “hit with an overwhelming gratitude and hopefulness that God has created a space for which [they had] been yearning” as York congregant Liz put it. “York needs you,” she declared in a letter to Rev. Andrea Brown, lead pastor of the church. Grandview was being called to York, and it was ready to answer that call.
9. What should I wear to church?
We’re easy! You’ll see skirts, ties, sweaters, polos, tattoos, T-shirts, etc. If you want to fit into the mainstream, think casual. If you like an edgier look, we like that, too.
10. What are your people like?
We’re young and old and in between. We come in many political colors. Ethnically, we’re not that colorful yet, however Grandview is active in the work of overcoming racism in ourselves and in the world around us. LGBTQ people are welcomed and affirmed here. We have ramps and accessible bathrooms that enable people who use wheelchairs to worship here. We love our differences and have unity in a faith that takes the biblical principle of love seriously, seeking to make it come alive in the world.
11. What are the church office hours?
9 a.m.-1 p.m. weekdays.
