Grandview York is a newly planted congregation with roots in the Methodist, United Church of Christ and Presbyterian traditions. We practice a biblically-grounded theology of putting love into action with works of justice and peace. We are open and affirming toward LBTQIA+ people, and we actively work to dismantle racism. With people of all ages, we practice a thinking faith that values questions. We meet at DreamWrights Center for Community Arts on Sunday mornings. Grandview York is under care of and resourced by the Grandview Lancaster church and leadership.
Reporting to and closely partnering with the Co-Lead Pastors, the Lead Musician will help shape the musical life of Grandview York, contributing to the growth and vitality of the congregation. They will play an essential role in cultivating a vibrant, welcoming, life-giving worship experience that enriches worship, deepens faith, and encourages participation, inviting the congregation to engage meaningfully and “sing our mission.”
They will be responsible for thoughtful musical worship planning and song selection, crafting weekly set lists that reflect the unique identity of the congregation and support weekly worship themes, bringing a deep appreciation for the lyrical, contextual, and theological significance of music.
On Sunday mornings, the Lead Musician will bring this vision to life by empowering the congregation to make a joyful noise. They will be sensitive to the needs of diverse worshippers, reduce barriers and distractions to participation, and support Grandview’s commitment to providing a safe and welcoming environment. They will encourage musicians to use their gifts in service and joy while fostering robust congregational singing and the shared experience of hearing one another’s voices raised in worship.
Grandview York Church’s active participation ranges from 40-75 on any given Sunday. The musical team is composed of 8-10 volunteers with a mix of skill and confidence levels. The Lead Musician will be responsible for building and maintaining a welcoming culture for the musicians.
Grandview York benefits from a collaborative and cooperative relationship with Grandview Lancaster, an established congregation of 600 active people with a strong musical culture.
Primary Role and Responsibilities:
- Musical worship leadership; facilitating congregational engagement, paying close attention to the energy and needs of the congregation, adapting when necessary to nurture the shared worship experience
- Song leadership; encouraging worshipers to raise their voices in song more than performance.
- Collaborating with the Pastors, choosing songs that underscore the Pastor’s intended message
- Creating worshipful song arrangements that focus on congregational sing-ability
- Recruiting, coordinating and developing a team of volunteer musicians
- Leading weekly rehearsals
- Cultivating an atmosphere that combines practice and play, while continually building on the team’s musical ability and cohesion
Additional Responsibilities:
- Developing a musical culture which includes special musical opportunities.
- Creating and monitoring budget as assigned.
- Growing our musical library.
- Ensuring copyright compliance for music used in the service. Responsible for CCLI reporting as directed.
- Attending staff meetings. Currently meeting twice a month virtually (required). Monthly staff lunches in York (strongly encouraged).
Requirements:
- Skilled musician with the ability to lead as a self-accompanying soloist or as band leader.
- One year of experience leading worship in a congregational setting. This includes: song selection, creating charts and arrangements, forming teams, running rehearsals, and weekly leadership in worship.
- Some theological/Bible training.
- Unflappable in an environment where on-the-spot problem-solving and flexibility are needed.
Additional requirements:
- A love of music and connecting through music.
- Highly creative, collaborative.
- Clear and effective communicator, one-to-one, and publicly.
- Flexibility with scheduling, which includes weekends, evenings and holidays.
- Able to work with a diversity of individuals, including Grandview York staff and volunteers and an extended community of Grandview Lancaster staff and musicians.
- Mandated clearances and training.
- Safe Sanctuaries & Mandated Reporter trainings every 3 years
- PA and Child Clearances every 5 years
- FBI Clearance (fingerprints) at hiring and every 5 years
- Working knowledge of Google Suites, Planning Center.
- Ability to lift 50 pounds.

Work Schedule: Part-time position 10-hours a week with roughly 4 hours occurring on Sunday mornings. Note that on certain holiday weeks, there may be an additional service (i.e. Christmas Eve or during Lent/Easter).
Compensation: Commensurate with experience: $12,200 – $14,300.
